Leave them behind

MT#161609/02/2024

There is something heroic and honourable about not leaving anybody behind. It sounds solemn. It feels fair. Imagine a community run by an assembly of all its members, who must approve every new rule, however controversial, by unanimity. The best-case scenario is nothing short of ideal. The problem, as the sagacious reader will have anticipated, is that every other scenario is nothing short of hellish.

The alternative isn’t to create small exclusive groups of ruthless people who act regardless of what everybody else might think and without considering the extent of their impact. The alternative is to create the conditions to include as many people as possible in the decision-making and be willing to exclude all those who never wanted involvement in the first place.

Easier said than done, and yet it must be said before we do anything.
