Political decisions

Political decisions impact lives.

Populists dumb down their messages and heat up their rhetoric to garner the support of those who keep them in power. These supporters are often removed from the issues that cause them so much fear and distress. The more detached from the problem, the more insurmountable it may appear. The more insurmountable the challenge, the harsher we allow ourselves to be.

Elsewhere, those affected suffer the consequences of cruel decisions made by insensitive leaders, whose ambitions are much stronger than any honour, integrity or sense of duty they may also possess. These victims won’t have much of a voice; those causing their pain will hope their suffering remains buried. Exposure to external suffering can stir the numbest of souls.

Armed with the perspective of history, we should know that political decisions paint the picture of who we are as a collective.
